Event Description

Canfield Community Concert Band’s annual concert at Austintown Township Park will kick off this year’s Independence Day celebration with a special event to get everyone in the patriotic spirit! Piccolo Palooza will feature an epic performance of John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” Piccolo players of all ages are invited to join the band to play the famous piccolo part from the final strain of the march. James McClellan: Reviewing the Situation July 29, 2017 | 7:30 PM | The Flad Pavilion @ the DeYor Hometown favorite James McClellan takes a musical look back as he celebrates 40 years of performing in Youngstown. The retrospective will include a wide variety of songs ranging from Broadway show tunes to popular standards. Easy Street’s Cabaret Nights concert series has transformed the Overture Restaurant and DeYor lobby into the area’s premiere venue to hear local entertainers perform live. The monthly concerts showcase artists in a cabaret setting that is unique to downtown with table seating and a wait staff serving a wide variety of beer, wine and specialty cocktails. A small plate menu is also available prepared by Chef Jeff Chrystal. Reservations are recommended. Seating is limited and tickets for this popular new concert series always sell out fast. Table seating is $25, and doors will open at 6:00 pm for a show at 7:30 pm.Read more…

The Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre will hold a Fall session of classes for six Saturdays, September 30-November 4. Children in grades 1-3, may enroll in “Imagination Station!,” a creative drama class, led by instructor Joanna Andrei. The class will include theatre games, stage skills, and creative movement, while working to develop the imagination, self-confidence and self-expression. Class time is 10-11 a.m. Instructor Patricia Fagan will conduct “It Was a Dark and Stormy Night!,” for students in grades 4 -6. The class teaches the basics of acting, through the use of classic theatre games and improvisational exercises. Students will then use those skills in the creation, rehearsal and performance of their own mystery story. Class time is 10-11 a.m. The course stresses self-esteem, critical thinking and working together. “So, You Want to Be an Actor!” is designed for students in grades 7-12, and will be taught by instructor Jeanine Rees. The class will include stage skills, auditioning techniques, beginning improvisation and scene work. Class time is 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The course is aimed at both the beginning actor and those with some experience. Classes will have a work sharing performance on the last day for families and friends. The cost is $75 per student, with discounts available for siblings. Some scholarship assistance is available for qualifying students. Enrollment is limited.Read more…
