Event Description

The Historic Preservation Committee of the MVHS Board of Directors is pleased to announce the winners of the 2017 Historic Preservation Awards.  These awards honor those in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties who take an active role in preserving historic buildings, sites, and districts.  Winners of the Community Revitalization Awards are Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica – Youngstown; Lewis House – Poland Preservation Society; St. Patrick Church – Youngstown; and the Commercial Revitalization Award winner is Peter Allen Inn – Kinsman.

The winners will be honored at the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s 142nd Annual Meeting to be held on Tuesday, June 20th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 West Federal Street in downtown Youngstown.  The public is invited to attend the dinner, cost is $28 for MVHS members and $32 for guests.

Southwoods Concert for the Valley
Featuring Pitbull

Mr. Worldwide will bring his Latino flavored pop act to the Covelli Centre as part of the Concert for the Valley Series.  Pitbull has worked with the likes of Nelly, LMFAO, KESHA and Kelly Rowland to name a few.  The man behind popular hits such as “I Know You Want Me,” and “Timber” will be supporting his latest release Climate Change, which was released this past March.

Craig Cramer, professor of Organ at the University of Notre Dame, performs in concert 4 p.m. Sunday, July 2 at 4:00 p.m. in Youngstown State University’s Bliss Recital Hall as part of the American Guild of Organists Great Lakes Regional Convention. A master class is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, July 3 in the same location. Both events are free and open to the public. The convention includes many events at various locations around the area. Cramer serves as organist at St. David of Wales Episcopal Church in Elkhart, Ind. He holds degrees from Westminster Choir College and the Eastman School of Music, where he earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance. The Eastman School also awarded him the prestigious Performer’s Certificate in Organ.

One of the most traveled organists of his generation, Cramer maintains an active recital career across the United States and Europe. He has performed for conventions of the American Guild of Organists, as well as for many AGO Chapters across the country. He has also appeared as a soloist with a number of different orchestras. He performed the complete organ works of Bach during a series of 18 concerts using a distinguished set of mechanical-action organs in the state of Indiana. His performances are frequently heard on the nationally-syndicated program “Pipedreams” (American Public Radio). He has 15 CD recordings to his credit.
