Event Description

Canfield Community Concert Band’s annual concert at Austintown Township Park will kick off this year’s Independence Day celebration with a special event to get everyone in the patriotic spirit! Piccolo Palooza will feature an epic performance of John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” Piccolo players of all ages are invited to join the band to play the famous piccolo part from the final strain of the march. Opening October 6th is a photography show featuring Ron Cabuno, Paul Grilli, and Stephen Poullas. These three photographs capture the romance and lure of non traditional landscapes, hidden secrets, and everyday life. “Shutter” is a must see show this fall in Youngstown. Three consecutive Wednesday classes:  March 8, 15, 22.  Learn to work with alcohol ink to make beautifully brilliant colored 6″ x 6″ tiles.

Week 1: Meet the materials and experiment with florals using the drip and drive method.
Week 2: Create a landscape using different tools to manipulate ink.
Week 3: One More Tool – Ink up any loose ends then mount your masterpiece.

Join us for a reading by novel and short story writers Nancy Christie of Salem and J. Everett Prewitt of Cleveland. Open mic to follow.

Nancy Christie is the author of the fiction collection, Traveling Left of Center and Other Stories (a runner-up in the 2016 Shelf Unbound Competition), the inspirational book, The Gifts Of Change and numerous short stories including one that was shortlisted for Pulp Literature’s 2016 The Raven Short Story Contest. She is also the founder of “Celebrate Short Fiction” Day and host of the monthly Monday Night Writers group in Canfield. Her “Rut-Busting” Workshop for Writers helps participants identify their objectives, overcome self-imposed barriers and get out of their writing rut. J. Everett Prewitt is a Vietnam veteran and a former Army officer. He holds a B.A. from Lincoln University and an M.S. in Urban Studies from Cleveland State. His novel Snake Walkers won the Bronze Award for General Fiction in ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year contest, and was honored by the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. A Long Way Back received numerous awards, including first place in the Independent Publishers of New England. A novella titled Something About Ann, and a series of short stories related to A Long Way Back including the award winning The Last Time I Saw Willie, will be available in 2017.
